Cold As Ice by Anne Stuart
Eyes of Crow by Jeri Smith-Ready
Valley of the Soul by Tamara Siler Jones
Lost in Translation by Edward Willett (looked interesting)
AND
an ARC of Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning
an ARC of The Scent of Shadows by Vicki Pettersson
And tomorrow I'm off to pick up my copy of Final Fantasy 12. And I have the day off to play it. What more could I want? Life is good.
If you must blog, at least bloghappy Don't expect deep thoughts, I usually enjoy what I finally decide to pick up.
A few books read
Well, I wasn't feeling well yesterday. Went home about 2 and a half hours before work was done because of stomach pains. So I took some stuff and sat on the couch and read. Started and finished reading Black Ice by Anne Stuart that way. Wow. I loved that book. Seriously good. And now I can't wait to read Cold As Ice. Can not wait. Also read most of Strange Candy by Laurell K. Hamilton. I actually liked most of it. Read very quickly and I think I only have maybe one or two stories to go in it.
Also got Body Movers by Stephanie Bond and Shadowed by Wings by Janine Cross from the library. They were having a booksale there, but the pickings were slim and I didn't see anything I liked.
Also went to Petsmart and bought a crinkle bag for Gambit. And a big pizza cutter from Bed, Bath and Beyond (you so wanted to know that, didn't you?) and then on to Lowe's. Oooh....I had fun there. I love looking at house stuff.
Left my iPaq at work, so I didn't get to read more of Mel's book last night. Sorry Mel.

Things you have to see to believe
Like this one:
The Crampinator
Sadly, my mind wants to really know if it works. Anyone willing to go buy one and report back?
In other news...there really is no other news.
I do get tomorrow off. That's nice. And next weekend is the Godsmack concert. Hmmm....oh, and Born in Death comes out soon! Me want.
And I kinda want the new Linda Lael Miller book, Deadly Gamble. It sounds kinda fun.
And now I think I need to go to work. Or at least make my lunch and then go to work. Yeah. That.

Flowers
So here's a pic of the flowers. The vampire bear in the pic is one I won in a contest from Marjorie Jones (aka Starla Childs). Isn't he adorable? And aren't those roses pretty?
Reasons why I have the best husband
I was surprised with a dozen and a half roses today. :-) Nick came home with 18 pink and white roses. They're so pretty. And for no reason! *grin*
And the man did a load of laundry. What more could one want?
Will have to get a pic of the flowers posted later.

Sunday musings
Well, another day of work. Yesterday went by pretty fast as it seemed fairly busy at work. We'll see how today goes.
The snow got cancelled. Completely and utterly cancelled. Not a single flake, but it sure rained a lot yesterday.
Still reading the Belgariad, though I'm almost finished with the third book. I'd also forgotten to mention here that I read Simply Unforgettable by Mary Balogh. I think it was my first non-Regency title that I've read of hers. I liked it, though didn't love it.
I'm debating whether I should buy the trades for the Mallorean when I finish up with Belgariad. I was initially a bit skeptical as to whether they'd hold up, but as easy on my books as I am, I think it'll be fine. Also found the SFBC editions of Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series, so I plan to buy those. Certain series I just like to have together because they take up less space on the shelves.
And I think I'm going to buy myself a sewing machine. Something easy that I can learn (it's been awhile since HomeEc, you know). And must be able to handle denim so I can hem my jeans. So hrm. Will have to check out options sometime.
I've just been feeling really crafty lately. I keep wanting to do stuff. Make stuff.
And Gambit's back up on the desk. Know how hard it is to type when you have a cat head butting your fingers? Or trying to drink out of your water glass? And scratching his head on every pile of books so that they end up falling over? He has this thing about piles of books. Must knock them over. It's very annoying. And earlier he was trying to eat my bowl of Fruit Loops. So I spent the time eating it moving the bowl around so he wouldn't get it. You should have seen him balancing on the very edge of the desk as he extended a paw towards the bowl I had in my hand. Too cute. But annoying. :-) But too cute to really stay annoyed for long.
And I didn't mention this before and I've had the issue awhile, but does anyone else think the latest issue of RT was rather boring? It's the one with the Darkfever cover on the front.
I also didn't find as many books that I wanted as I'd thought. I can't remember them all, though Born in Death by JD Robb is one I'll be buying the day it comes out.
Well, it's 9 now and I work at 10. Off to finish getting ready.

It's Saturday.
Let's see....it's 7:30 in the morning and I have to be at work at 9. And it's going to be a not so fun day, I just know it. :-) It's 44 degrees out right now and supposed to rain today. And the temp is supposed to drop. That 44 is supposed to be the high. Ooph.
In other news, I just started the Magician's Gambit part of the Belgariad trade that I'm rereading. And also read some of Passionate Thirst by Cameron Dean. Who still doesn't seem to have a website. Bad bad bad author.
Well, time to go blowdry my hair and make my lunch.
And oh shit. This from the weather service page for tonight:
Tonight: Periods of snow, mainly before 1am. Low around 29. Blustery, with a north wind between 13 and 22 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of around 2 inches.
Erp.

A few things
Hmmmm....so when I tell myself that I'm not going to blog for awhile, I get the urge. Figures.
Well, it's certainly possible my mini-breakdown Monday night was just PMS. Or at least exacerbated by it. *shrug* Not that I'm ignoring the whole thing. Weirdly, I seem to get more of those times when I have more than one day off of work in a row. I wonder if just being home alone that long now just doesn't work for me. I feel better when I'm around people. Don't have to necessarily interact with them, but just around. Strange.
On the reading front: Still reading a lot. I finished up Midnight Sonata by Dee Tenorio and really plan to write up a post about it. Errr...I finished it right before my mini-crying jag Monday night. It was a good book. Definitely character-driven and I really wanted to see those two get together in the end. Thanks, Dee, for sending it. Will post more on it later. So anyways, anyone looking for a good character-driven straight contemporary should pick it up. It's an enjoyable story. A bit angsty, but not overly so.
But after finishing that up and having my "poor me" interlude, I heading out of the bedroom and into the living room to grab some tylenol (cuz the crying was giving me a headache) and grabbed a comfort read. Which ended up being the Belgariad by David Eddings. I'd bought the two volume trade of it awhile back since it would take up less space on the shelf, but hadn't read it again til now. It's amazing how much I remember, but also still how much I enjoy the story. yes, it's simple, but I still love it. Not so much some of his later stuff which I really haven't read much of.
Also at work started I'm the Vampire, That's Why by Michele Bardsley and found it rather meh. Boring characters and a silly plot are making me not really want to pick it up again. It's just so....boring. And the explicit sex just doesn't fit the story. Then I also started Just One of Those Flings by Candice Hern. So far it's pretty good. And today started Never After by Lickiss. Also pretty good, but not as compelling as I'd like. I can see myself not picking it up again and not caring. But I do want to finish the Hern one.
On Netflix I've got the second disc of Samurai 7 out. And also Samurai Champloo, but don't remember which disc. Might also be the second one. Or the third.
Also dabbling in jewelry making and made a blue-green beaded necklace. I plan to take a beginners' class someday. There are a few local bead shops here that offer them.
And hmmm....it's that time of the month. ugh. And I have five straight days of work. There was today and then I work everday through the weekend.
Okay, Nick needs to finish updating my computer (which yes, one would think I could do myself, but it's some odd patching thingy that I'm not familiar with, but I'd rather have my computer updated. So Nick's doing it. Damn Microsoft).
So now I'm going to give the PC over to him. So sorry about the lack of linking and prettying up of this post.

Hiatus
Well, as you all know, I really haven't been updating things lately. I'm not quite sure what's up, other than I feel stressed out for no reason. I think I need to stand back and take a look at things. I keep wanting to post things here, but when I sit down, nothing comes to me. I've read a number of good books, and usually I'd feel compelled to come here and write about them, but lately I just haven't been able to make myself do it. I compose the posts in my head, but when it comes time to do it on the computer, I can't.
I keep thinking I need to do something. I'd almost say I'm depressed, but I hate the idea of being that way again after how hard to was during college (and before). But anyways, I feel kinda lost. So, I'm going to put the blog on hold for a bit. But I'm still around, just putting the blog on hiatus.

There's snow
There is SNOW in my local forecast. SNOW. Yes, that white stuff. And tomorrow's high temp? Supposedly 46. At 9 a.m. Then it's supposed to get colder.
In other news, I've finished up Magic Study by Maria Snyder. Such a good book. Not quite as good as the perfection that was Poison Study (okay, not perfect perfect, but pretty damn good), but MS is still a great book and a must-read if you liked Poison Study.
Also started Cattery Row by Clea Simon while I was at the hospital yesterday while Nick has a procedure done. Very nice hospital, too. I had a very comfy wing chair next to a window to curl up in.
And also started Charmed to Death by Shirley Damsgaard while getting my hair highlighted this morning. Never had my hair highlighted before, so it was fun. I love how it turned out, too.
Also went to the Clinique counter in search of a foundation lighter than what they'd given me last time. No such luck, but one type was out of stock that might work, so they'll call me when it comes in. Ugh. How come the more expensive cosmetic companies don't carry lighter shades? Went to Lancome and they didn't have anything light enough either. Sure, you can get a slightly too dark shade to blend, but it's still going to be darker than my neck and chest. Not a look I want. I knew I'm pale, but I didnt think THIS pale. I think the redness that shows through so much is what makes it seem like my skin is darker. Blech.

The things one takes for granted, otherwise known as an ode to a wonderful drug
No, not THAT kind of drug! Woke up last night about a half hour after I'd fallen asleep to serious congestion. Nose all stuffed up and feeling rotten. Ugh, I'm thinking. I just get over whatever got me earlier this week and now I'm coming down with a cold. Thankfully, that wasn't it. I'd forgotten to take my Zyrtec-D before bed. Got up, took one, and woke up this morning feeling absolutely wonderful. And I could breathe through my nose again. So yeah, apparently the allergy meds really DO work as well as they seem to.
But can I say that I'm seriously disappointed that Zyrtec is going OTC? That's going to make next year very expensive in the drug category since I won't be able to get it for so cheap from the pharmacy. Damn it, I hate when they go OTC. But I love my Zyrtec-D. *pout*

New Gambit pics
If you look over at the Flickr thingy on the right, you'll notice some new Gambit pics. :-)
Here's one of them:
Doesn't he look spiffy in his pumpkin costume?

And Tuesday sucks as well
Another day home sick from work. Ugh. I have tomorrow off, so that helps. I already feel much better, but still more tired than usual even with all the sleep I've been getting. Blech. I just feel nasty.
I did finish reading Mystic and Rider by Sharon Shinn. Really good book. Also started reading The Singer's Crown by Elaine Isaak.
Nick realized about half an hour ago that the new Evanescence cd was out today, so he ran to Target to grab it. Listening to it now. So far it's good.
I hope I sleep well tonight. I'm sick of tossing and turning and generally feeling lousy.

Mondays suck
Especially when you wake up and feel like shit. So today was spent sleeping. And a little tv and a little reading. Don't have a cold, but I suspect it has to do with allergies and asthma. My body always wants to shut down when I have problems with asthma. I still kinda don't feel well, but hopefully I will be okay for work. Don't start until one tomorrow.
Watched Witch Hunter Robin that I'd had from Netflix. I liked it, although it's slow and you only glimpse parts of the characters' pasts. I already put the rest of the discs in my queue.
Also started Mystic and Rider by Sharon Shinn. And last night I finished Warrior and Witch by Marie Brennan. Wow. I loved that book and really hope for more books by her. She's gone to the auto-buy list. It's a great followup to Doppelganger, which I also loved. I'm not real sure it's possible to talk about W&W without major spoilers from Doppelganger. But anyways, read them!
Also decided to buy some ebooks.
So I now have Assassin's Apprentice and Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb, The Singer's Crown by Elaine Isaak, Midnight Sun by Rene Lyons, Lord Night by Jessie Verino, and Colters' Woman by Maya Banks.
So what is everyone else reading and buying? My blog is getting lonely. Which is entirely my fault, but still....
