Okay, so I bought some more ebooks

And from Ellora's Cave. Honestly, it's the first place I think to buy ebooks. Maybe because it's so easy to navigate and to buy from. These stood out because I kinda like the covers. And well, I bought Enforcer because it was a blogger book. I'm easy that way. Okay, and the idea of werewolf mafia is kinda cool. And the Cascades are beautiful. Used to go camping up there.

So here's what I bought:

I hope the Michelle Pillow book is good cuz man, 7.99 for an ebook is steep!!!

Okay, I'm thinking about buying a ebook and I have a question because I can't find it anywhere on their website. (that might be because it's 3:30 am but anyway)What kind of payment methods does Ellora's cave take? Visa? paypal? Mastercard?

Samantha - I'll jump in because I'm obnoxious that way. IIRC, Ellora's Cave welcomes the usual major plastic friends and paypal.

I do think they need to put that note up to let us know what they'd accept as I think it's a bit dodgy to find out by going through with an actual order placement.

I agree, they do need to put something up! And thanks so much Maili!

Ohh! Cool, thanks, Nicole. I hope you like it. I have to say it's my favorite of all my covers, the print cover is even more beautiful with a wolf on the back.

Oh and you can't go wrong with Michelle or Lacey actually!

What do you mean blogger book?

Nicole said...

I meant that it's a book from someone who blogs. As in you have your own blog that I visit. :-)

Nicole, you've hit on one of the main reasons I've stopped buying books from EC. 7.99 IS steep!

I just bought a best selling author's paperback book for 6 bucks. No way in hell, I'm paying 8 bucks for an ebook.

Ah, gotcha!

I used to think that the price of ebooks has gotten to be outrageous (okay, I still think that) but have you seen what the publishers are putting out these days. I picked up Lani Diane Rich's books from the library yesterday. Her books are about 200 pages long in trade format. I measured the white spaces: about 1 and 1/4" on the sides and 2" on the top and the bottom. Good size font. This book is the size of a harlequin presents and it costs $12.95. I think that we get deceived by the length of an ebook because LDR's word count is probably very comparable to that of the $7.99 book. I am not saying I like the pricing, just that it's not as out there as we might originally think.

Nicole, didn't you win a copy of Repo Chick Blues a little while back? Your penguin looks familiar.

Trace, I don't think I did. I think I might have commented at a post where someone else won, but I don't think I did. It looks good, though.

Jane, but in trade paperbacks, we aren't paying for more story there than mass markets, we're paying for that format. And I do NOT like paying trade prices. So 7.99 for an ebook seems high to me as I trade it in if it sucks.

And I understand word count in ebooks and that is usually my basis for comparing cost. I mean, a category length book at EC is about 5.20. I can get a category size book from the bookstore new for almost half that! We just don't get discounts for ebooks. I'd almost like it if for like the first few weeks of a release, they offer them for like 20 or 30% off. It would certainly be more of an incentive to buy more often.

Nicole - I like the discount idea. I would definitely buy more books and take more chances if the books were under $5.00. That is one reason I liked Elibron so much - they appear to be about 30-40% off. SimonSays is pricing its ebooks at 40% off. Paperbackdigital's prices are 33% off. I would like to see EC, Samhain do similar pricing. Maybe even a buying club membership like Fictionwise. Anything to bring down the per book cost.

Nicole, email me at tm-sharp@hotmail.com. I think it's so nice that you've bought that many ebooks in one shot, that you can have mine for free if'n you want it :)
